The mystery of flight, beautiful, and colorful plumage, and the
musical songs, and calls of birds have fascinated people
through out the ages.
There are over 800 species of birds in North America. The
founders of each state had their favorites, and each state
designated its own official state bird. Check out our state

Some all time favorites like the cardinal, Western meadowlark,
goldfinch and mockingbird are recognized as the
state bird of several states.
Others, like the ptarmigan of Alaska and the Nene goaii are the state bird of a single state.
